I’m terribly saddened by the loss of Roger Ebert (pictured here with Russ Meyer). Accompanied by a quick wit & a clever writing style, his words often moved me, and his passion for film was spectacular. The site is down right now, but if you want to be inspired & challenged, check out the database of Ebert’s insightful, intelligent film reviews at Sun Times.

What’s great about Ebert’s reviews is that the reader can trust him completely as a critic. Even if we disagree with his assessments, they come from a well informed critic with a true passion for film. I love reading his reviews for iconic movies that he adored & had seen many times, but I also enjoy reading his positive reviews for movies I didn’t like, to challenge myself to see another view.

He was a wonderful talented man, I’m grateful that he was so unabashed & prolific in his work so we always have his words to accompany our visits to movies. The biggest loss is that all the films we see from here on out that won’t be accompanied by Ebert’s wise words.

Last year I posted some quotes of Ebert’s reviews accompanied by film stills. Suicide Blonde & I will reblog some of them today as tribute.
